Heal the Earth Ayrshire was born in 2006 from a need to contribute to the biggest operation in the history of mankind Operation Earth!
Jan Sinclair had a positive conviction that beginning a rescue operation on a local level could bring about a sea change.
A change that would emerge from forming community groups of local people who cared and wanted to protect their own local environment from further pollution. How? Central to this vision is the power of a group to inspire and support people to change their lifestyle and bring an ocean of change drop by drop.with every small change they make, to live in harmony with the Earth rather than to exploit it.
This local evolution is snowballing within different communities as if instilled with the same vision and need to respond. A sense of community is developing and transition towns are emerging... a brave move to take charge of their own resources and energy needs without the damage caused by fossil fuels. A new world of cooperation with the eco-systems is emerging, community by community. The sea of change is coming about through humans cooperating rather than competing with each other.
On a Grassroots level:
- Heal the Earth has linked with other Ayrshire groups, councils and organisations with the wish to foster a spirit of cooperation.
- We have approached local supermarkets to raise the profile to protect the environment- in saving energy, stocking locally grown and manufactured goods, reducing travel miles.
- We have lobbied manufacturer to reduce excess packaging and discontinue plastic or non-biodegradable wrappings.
- We have are working towards a plastic-bag free town and on-going initiative which puts Kilmarnock on track to be the first Plastic Bag Free Town in Ayrshire.
- We believe in ongoing personal challenges to further reduce our carbon footprint (link to events) and walk lightly on the earth.
- Our community garden, individuals and groups can learn how to grow their own organic food.
